(Board Member Candidate)
Biography:
I was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My father and mother raised my sister, brother, and me in a loving home. We attended Catholic grade school, where discipline was required. We were expected to be involved in church activities, which included my brother and becoming altar boys. Mom was in the altar society, and Dad was in the Knights of Columbus. One thing that was missing in the catholic school was reading the Bible. The Bible was never read in school or at home, only by the priest at mass. My wife and I followed the path when our children were young. You will see later in my bio that this all changed when my wife passed away in 2010.
I graduated from pharmacy school in 1978 and was married to Charlotte shortly afterwards. We had three children, Jennifer (46), Brian (42), and David (40). I worked in retail pharmacy for the next 20 years, eventually owning five pharmacies with a fellow pharmacist. I also served on the board of directors of the for-profit arm of the Michigan Pharmacy Association. I was also the chairman of the national senior hall of fame tournament in High Point, NC. In the late 90s, managed care was gaining ground, and I could see that the future of independent pharmacy would be difficult. I was offered a very attractive position at a non-retail fabric distribution company in North Carolina. I accepted and became president of Greenhouse Fabrics. We grew the business, and it became a national company.
In 2010, my wife Charlotte died suddenly of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. Needless to say, this was a life-changing event. With the help of some wonderful friends, I started attending a Wednesday morning Bible study. I took three separate invitations before I decided to give it a chance. The Lord was definitely trying to tell me something. By the end of December 2010, I gave my life to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I had an inner peace like nothing I have ever felt before. I was changed forever.
I am truly thankful for my friends who gave me the invitation, and to Pastor John Willlett, who taught the Bible study. John and became good friends, and he married my beautiful wife Cynthia and me in 2016. In 2017, Cynthia and I made a pilgrimage to Israel with John and 23 other couples. It was a trip of a lifetime. In 2021, we purchased a condo at Quail Ridge in Boynton Beach. Ironically, David McCaman was teaching a Bible study at Quail Ridge, which I started attending. Cynthia and I attended First Baptist Boynton and followed David to Gospel City. Praise God for men like John and David. After retiring in 2024, we moved to Boynton Beach permanently. We feel the Lord has plans for us here, which is why I would be honored to serve on the board of directors of Gospel City Church.
